Ohio House Bill 798 (HB798)

LOVEboldly's Position -

OPPOSED

Further discriminating against members of the Trans community

Why Should Christians Care?

Summary

HB798 would make it a civil violation for people to use a bathroom, changing room, or overnight accommodation which has been designated for people of a different sex as assigned at birth. The bill requires public entities to designate their bathrooms as single sex. Further, it provides "protections" for employees who refuse to respect people's pronouns and who use the wrong pronouns for people. It also requires sex as assigned at birth to be listed on a person's birth certificate and death certificate. It also makes it illegal to amend a birth certificate, marriage certificate, or divorce decree with correct sex or gender markers. It's unclear if HB798 would affect drivers licenses, but it seems very likely that people would not be allowed to amend their sex markers on those as well. Also, the bill interestingly strikes all references to "biological" in terms of "biological sex."

Status

HB798 was introduced into the House on March 31, 2026. It has not yet been assigned to a committee.
